2023 Newbury Weekly News "Best in Business Awards."

Swift Group of Companies are delighted to be sponsoring the Charity of the Year at the Newbury Weekly News Best in Business Awards.

We’ve been proud to call Newbury our home since 1989. As our business has grown, so has our commitment to the community of West Berkshire; a community from which we draw our business’s greatest asset, our people. When Newbury Weekly News asked us to sponsor this award, we felt it was the perfect way to acknowledge our own responsibility to the people of West Berkshire, as well as that of the wider commercial community. It also gives us the chance to thank the nominated charities for their tireless and amazing work, which improves the lives of those in need day in, day out.

We firmly believe that businesses have a responsibility to give back to their area. That’s why we continue to look for ways to support local people who are experiencing hardship. It is important to remember that the relative affluence of West Berkshire does little to console those who are going through crisis. In fact, our experience working with local charities has helped us realise that the prosperity of the many actually makes the shadow darker for the few who are struggling.

We think that the best way to contribute is to engage with charities to offer practical help in areas that we understand. By sticking to what we know, we can become part of a long-term solution. Our experience in working with hospitals as a medical courier, for instance, led us to set up our annual Easter Egg giveaway. Our knowledge of operating in healthcare environments means we can provide comfort to children receiving treatment without causing a distraction to the extraordinary doctors, nurses and hospital staff.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Gardner Leader, who kindly waived their fees when they helped us extend The Newbury Soup Kitchen’s lease on their Hambridge Lane premises. This means that NSK’s indefatigable team of loyal volunteers can continue their remarkable work alleviating the suffering caused by homelessness. For us, support like this exemplifies how special this community and its people are. We realise there is more to do. That’s why we pledge our ongoing commitment to this very special place that we call ‘home’.
