The intensive projects schedule, which takes place around the period May to September each year, includes the provision of logistics services for the deployment of event equipment around the entire UK, on a scheduled and immediate basis. Services focus on strict stock integrity and time and process specific delivery to area event managers and event locations. Delivery of this equipment is key to the success of the events, which are undertaken by over 600,000 UK fund raisers annually and which generate over £50 million to fund the charity’s research and ambition to beat cancer sooner.

Swift Logistics Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of privately owned Swift Group of Companies, has been trading for over 25 years, with revenues approaching £10 million per annum, provides immediate and overnight express logistical solutions out of four UK regional service centres. Services include FSL and PUDO operations, technical courier and peripheral technician support, and field asset management services within the medical and life sciences markets, along with more traditional immediate response courier services and overnight services via its logistics partner – APC Overnight.

Swift’s success in securing this prestigious relationship was largely due to its ability to demonstrate an understanding of the need for 100% service and stock compliance – and the need to build robust contingency planning into highlighted potential flash points within the logistics process.

Swift’s Group Managing Director, Adrian Smith explained- “Very early on in negotiations we were able to highlight a number of process and management adjustments which we felt would not only increase efficiency, but also enhance the control and flexibility of services, ultimately delivering increasing financial savings.” He continued, “ While in business today, it is a given that all commercial relationships are built on the need for both parties to embrace cost controls as the holy grail; the fact that we are here dealing with charitable funds, and that each penny which can be saved within the operational and management budgets will go to enhancing the effectiveness of cancer treatment and ultimately finding a cure sooner, really focuses the attention and determination to get it right… first time”.

Services initiated in September 2014, when Swift stepped in to provide specialist management and logistics support to CRUK’s London Shine Night Walk Event – coordinating the delivery, set up and removal of eight support stations over a 26-mile route in central London over a 24-hour period. Swift also provided a team based at the event’s control centre on Lower Thames Street, to coordinate its rapid response fleet to support the need for consumables and resources to be redeployed between locations as required during the overnight event.
